Welcome to Hurghada, the Jewel of the Red Sea!
Before we begin our tour of this fascinating city, we would like to provide you with some essential information about the resort.
Hurghada is located approximately 305 kilometers from Luxor and 455 kilometers from Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, Hurghada was initially a small fishing village, but it became one of the most important resorts on the Red Sea coast starting in the 1980s, due to Egyptian and international investments. Today, the resort is renowned for its facilities catering to windsurfing, kitesurfing, yachting, scuba diving, and snorkeling enthusiasts. Hurghada stretches over approximately 36 kilometers along the coast, but does not extend significantly into the desert.
The first hotel in the region was the Sheraton Hotel, located on Felfela Street. The tourism development period began in the 1990s and continues to evolve today. Currently, Hurghada is home to around 200 hotels, ranging from modest 2-star accommodations to luxury resorts.
The city of Hurghada is divided into three main areas: Sheraton Road, El Dahar, and Promenade.
Sheraton Road, also known as El Sakala, is the city's main tourist street, and it is the busiest street in Hurghada. Here, you will find numerous bazaars, cafes, supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, restaurants, and nightclubs. Many of the resort's hotels are located along the seaside.
Another key area of interest is Village Road (or El Memsha in Arabic), a wide and modern promenade over 5 kilometers long, home to 4-star hotels, international cuisine restaurants, famous nightclubs, malls, and countless shops.
It is said that El Kawther is the most European area in Hurghada. Located near El Mamsha and the airport, this area is situated between the Mubarak 2 and Mubarak 6 neighborhoods.
The last area we will explore is El Dahar, the historical district of the city, where most of the locals live. Here, you will also find some remarkable attractions such as: the town hall, the aquarium, the library, the largest mosque in Hurghada, the Orthodox church, and the food market. Over the last ten years, the city has seen impressive development, transforming from a fishing village into a city with over 200 hotels and a vibrant nightlife.
During our tour, we will also visit the Coptic Orthodox Church, one of the few Christian churches in Hurghada. Established in 2011 on the ruins of a previous church, this church is an important place of worship for the Coptic Christian community in Egypt, which represents nearly 10% of the country's population.
El Mina Mosque, located in the El Dahar area, is one of the most impressive structures in the resort. Opened in 2012, it was built at a cost of approximately 200 million Egyptian pounds. It is considered the largest mosque in the region and features two 10-meter high minarets and an inner courtyard, perfect for memorable photos. It is important to note that access to the mosque is restricted during prayer times, and women may only enter if they wear the jellabia, the traditional Muslim prayer dress.
Hurghada Marina is an ideal place for relaxation, walks, and photos. Opened in June 2008, the marina offers a wide range of restaurants, cafes, and stylish bars, making it the perfect spot for an unforgettable evening.
The city tour is free for those who have participated in three excursions with our team. For other tourists, the cost is 5 euros per person for those staying in Hurghada and 10 euros per person for those staying in the Makadi or El Gouna areas.
